Parker Kitchen Design Built Around the Family Room
We provide Parker kitchen design, custom cabinetry and remodeling for homes across town and in nearby Franktown and Elizabeth. Parker sits a little under 6,000 feet along Cherry Creek, southeast of Denver, and most of its houses went up from the 1980s on. That means a lot of kitchens that open onto a family room but were never really planned for it.
Homes in Parker
Parker Houses and What Their Kitchens Need
Parker began as a stagecoach stop and became a large suburban town in a few decades. Almost every kitchen here belongs to one stage of that growth.
- 1970s onward
The Pinery
The Pinery, an unincorporated community just south of town, is known for its ponderosa pines and rolling lots, with ranches, split-levels and two-stories, many over walkout basements. Kitchens are often enclosed, with one good window onto the trees. We usually open them toward the main living space while keeping that window, and plan pantry storage so the room doesn't suffer for losing a wall of uppers.
- 1990s to 2000s
Stonegate and 1990s two-stories
Production-built two-stories with a kitchen open to the family room, a corner pantry, an island holding a cooktop or sink, and maple or oak cabinets. The layout is usually workable. Common changes include moving the cooktop to a range wall with a proper hood, swapping the corner pantry for a pantry wall, and taking cabinetry to the ceiling.
- Late 1990s to today
Pradera and custom homes on larger lots
Larger homes with high or vaulted ceilings, big windows and often a second, working pantry. The design work is mostly proportion and detail: tall cabinetry scaled to the ceiling, a hood that holds its own on the range wall, and a scullery that absorbs the mess when you entertain.
- 2010s to today
Newer subdivisions on the edges of town
These homes tend to have open plans, big islands and builder-selected finishes. The layout is sound, so the budget goes into what the builder's option sheet never offered: cabinetry and stone chosen for the house, storage planned around what you own, and lighting that does more than one recessed grid.

Designing for Parker
Planning a Parker Kitchen: Light, Floors and Fuel
- 01
Low evening sun from the west
Parker's higher ground looks west to the Front Range, and on clear days south toward Pikes Peak. The evening sun drops behind the mountains low and long, right when dinner is being made. We place the main prep zone so the cook isn't facing straight into it, use honed or leathered stone that won't throw glare, and build window treatments into the trim from the start.
- 02
Hardwood that runs into the kitchen
Many Parker homes carry one hardwood floor through the whole main level. Extending or replacing it in the kitchen means new boards need to acclimate in the house first, because the semi-arid climate and dry winter heat make wood shrink. Seasonal gaps between boards are normal here, and we plan cabinetry to sit on or against the floor in a way that allows for that movement.
- 03
The kitchen as the family room's back wall
In most 1990s and 2000s homes here, the kitchen is the thing you see from the sofa. That makes noise and clutter design problems. We favor panel-ready refrigerators and dishwashers, a quiet hood sized correctly, and an island whose living-room side is finished like furniture rather than left as the back of a cabinet.
- 04
Gas and propane at altitude
At Parker's elevation, gas ranges and ovens commonly need an altitude adjustment made according to the manufacturer's instructions. Out in Franktown and Elizabeth, some homes run on propane, which adds a fuel conversion to the list. We confirm both before an appliance is specified.
How We Handle Kitchens in Parker
Each project begins with a kitchen plan drawn around your family: who cooks, who sits at the island doing homework, and where guests end up when you host. In a Stonegate two-story the answer often involves moving the cooktop. In The Pinery, it's usually about opening a closed room without losing the trees.
Made-to-measure cabinetry lets a pantry wall replace an awkward corner closet and lets an island face the living room properly. When walls, gas lines or flooring change too, we plan it as remodeling the whole kitchen rather than a string of separate fixes.

Parker and Nearby Communities
- Franktown
- Elizabeth
We also design kitchens in Franktown and Elizabeth, south and east of Parker. Both are rural, with custom homes on acreage, many on wells and some on propane. Kitchens there are often generous, with space for a large pantry and a mudroom off the garage, and the planning starts with the house's systems before it moves to finishes.
Questions
Parker Kitchen Questions
01Who issues kitchen remodel permits in The Pinery?
The Pinery is unincorporated Douglas County, so permits typically come from the county rather than the Town of Parker. Homes inside town limits usually go through the town's building department, and Elizabeth is in Elbert County. Confirm the right office for your address before the drawings are finalized, since requirements can differ.
02Should I move the cooktop off my island?
Often it's worth it. Island cooktops were common in Parker homes of the 1990s and 2000s, but venting over an island is harder than venting on a wall, and the island loses its best workspace. Moving the cooking to a range wall gives a hood something to work with and frees the island for prep and seating.
03Can I open my Pinery kitchen without losing the view of the trees?
Usually, yes. We keep the window wall intact and open the kitchen on the side facing the living space, so the view carries through rather than disappearing. Storage lost from uppers moves into a pantry wall or deep drawers.
04What can I do with an angled corner pantry?
Corner walk-in pantries waste floor space with their angled doors and deep, dark shelves. A wall of pantry cabinetry with pull-outs and shallower shelves often holds as much and keeps everything in view. It also tidies the corner so the cabinetry runs cleanly.
05Is a newer builder kitchen in Parker worth upgrading?
If the layout works, yes, and the money goes further because walls and plumbing can mostly stay. Replacing builder cabinetry with pieces drawn for the room, choosing stone you actually love and adding layered lighting changes the kitchen more than people expect.
